Christmas and Thanksgiving just aren’t complete without some wonderful cranberry sauce to cleanse the palate and top off the holiday meal. If you’re someone who is typically using the canned cranberry sauce, well stop it.. there is nothing like home made cranberry sauce. The taste is just amazing.
In fact, once you realize how easy it is to make your own cranberry sauce for your holiday dinner, you’re never going to use that jellied cranberry sauce again. Making cranberry sauce from scratch is simple, it’s fast and it is more delicious than anything that can come out of a jar or a can.
To Make Cranberry Sauce You Will Need:
One bag of fresh cranberries
one tablespoon margarine or butter
1 tsp cinnamon
1 orange, peeled and sliced
1 tsp orange zest
1/4 cup orange juice
1/2 cup sugar (more or less to suit your taste for sweetness)
scant quarter cup raisins (optional)
To Make Cranberry Sauce:
Peel and slice your orange and grate some of the orange zest, being careful not to get the inner pith that can be bitter
Place all ingredients into a pot, adding one cup of water to cover the berries. Bring all ingredients to a boil and simmer until the cranberries begin to pop. Shut off the pan and allow to cool before serving.
This also makes a wonderful holiday treat and because of the high acid will keep very well. Jar it in pretty jars, top it with a fabric jar topper and give to friends and relatives who would like to have their own home made cranberry sauce for Christmas dinner.
